Yin Yoga

Monday 12 January 7.15-8.30PM

@ The Works Studio, Badcox, BA11 3BG

Continuing to explore the shift in nature, often mirrored within ourselves to support you in finding rest.

Regulating the nervous system; a little space, peace in the fast pace of modern day living.

The practise is a reconnection with the body using Mindfulness and breathwork practises and a simple, floor based yin practise for a deep release within the body, inviting rest and relaxation.

Flow & Foundation Inversions

Saturday 31 January 10-11.30AM

@ The Works Studio, Badcox, BA11 3BG

A playful Vinyasa Flow practise, with time to prepare the body and mind for foundation inversion postures. An inversion, simply put, is any posture in which the head is below the heart; down-dog, standing forward folds, legs up the wall, but it’s when you move towards headstand, handstand, forearm stand, that's where the real magic happens! This workshop is ideal for those new or returning to getting upside down.

Being upside-down has a multitude of benefits for the cardiovascular, lymphatic, nervous, and endocrine systems. Reversing blood flow is also good for circulation. Gravity will help the lymphatic system work more efficiently. Inversions can be used to stimulate or restore, for a quick shift in energy and even increase mental function, concentration and memory.*

Seeing the world from a different point of view, both metaphorically and literally, can help challenge old ideas and bring in the new. Difficulties and obstacles can be put in perspective and downsized.

On an emotional level Inversions can balance your mood and on a mental level they can help to overcome fear or anxiety.

*Yoko Yoshikawa (Yoga Journal)

Above all this, for me, inversions are super fun! They offer equal amounts of play and challenge.

It’s liberating, an embodied freedom we rarely feel in adult life.

Yoga encourages us to recognise and move away from unconscious habitual patterns (kleshas). Inverting is simply another way by which to shake things up, break the cycle and surprise yourself.

Yoga may be considered foremost a contemplative endeavor, but the asana practice is also a time to be playful and light hearted.

Getting upside down can help reintroduce us to our inner child; to become curious, playful and break the boundaries that limit us.

Slow Flow, Restore & Sound

Friday 27 February 6-7.30PM

@ The Christchurch Parish Hall, Park Road, Frome

A practise of opposites; a mindful slow flow practise, transitioning to a restorative, still, Yin yoga practise. Opposite but interconnected; at this time of the year when we are at present in the darkness of Winter, but perhaps feeling the pull towards Spring, the light returning, the energy beginning to stir. We begin making the gentle transition, to step out into the world, present & awake. What is it we need?

Cultivate space, ease and clarity, before softening into calming restorative and yin releases and blissful relaxation.

This will be a truly nurturing experience. Sasha, of Restful Rhythms, will be available for hands on adjustments throughout the practise, where appropriate. She will also accompany our Yin practise, by weaving the sounds of the Himalayan bowls throughout the room, played both around you & placing the bowls on you, should you wish. Sasha will also support a deliciously sweet savasana by playing the beautiful crystal singing bowls, the vibration deepening your rest and restoration. A healthy, heart felt offering to bring warmth to any Winter blues.

Rocket Playdate

Saturday 28 February 10-11.30AM

@ The Works Studio, Badcox, BA11 3BG

This energetic and invigorating Vinyasa practice, has its roots in Ashtanga Vinyasa. Longer than our weekly classes, this practise will give us the opportunity to break down some of the postures, the inversion  into greater detail.

You can expect a lighthearted, playful class environment, supporting your own individual experience.

Mandala Vinyasa

Saturday 28 March 10-11.30AM

@ The Works Studio, Badcox, BA11 3BG

Mandala Vinyasa is a dynamic, mindful yoga flow, moving 360 degrees around the mat, a creative flow of movement.

Our practise will activate the parts of the body that correspond to the element that has the strongest presence on that day, as dictated by the Mayan calendar, an ancient civilisation in central America and Mexico. Each element corresponds to an area of the body, to allow activation of the relevant chakra that allows this creative energy to flow.

With intention, through breath and movement we create awareness to the subtle body.

Classes will include guided meditations, breathwork to encourage presence and open and close with yin;

softer poses to activate and then pacify the body to bring about balance, in quiet contemplation.

What you need to know...

When practising yoga with me, it is important to remember that my instructions are suggestions, to try and meet a variety of needs in a public class.

They might not be right for you, for a number of reasons and that’s OK.

I am not a medical professional. I might make recommendations about ways in which to modify or adapt the practise to suit your needs, but ultimately you must choose what feels right for you.

This ancient practise is a wonderful resource, but the key skill to practise and develop here is one of listening to your body; you must decide what feels appropriate and ultimately useful to you.

I am your guide to the practise, please take from it what you need.

For a more personal, tailored class experience that meets your unique needs, please contact me about private classes.

Whether that be to manage mobility issues or injury, or if you’re just starting out and don’t feel the class environment is right for you at this time, perhaps the busyness of life means you can’t make a public class.

I feel passionate about sharing this practise; it is indeed a doorway to transformation.

If you are at all unsure that you should join an in-person or online yoga class I urge you to consult your general practitioner or physiotherapist, particularly if you are pregnant.

I am always available to have a discussion and to answer any queries.

Vinyasa flow is a playful yoga practice that links movement with breath in a smooth, continuous sequence; a moving meditation.

Yin yoga is a practice of stillness that cultivates a deep sense of awareness through the release of the stresses in the mind and body.

An antidote to modern living, Yin focuses on releasing the connective tissue of the body (tendons, ligaments and fascia). Poses are held for longer periods, allowing you to relax, deepening body awareness through observation.
